The opening ceremony of the first Guangzhou Design Triennial under the theme of "The Warm-beings", will take place on January 17 at the Guangdong Museum of Art(GDMoA) in Guangzhou, an official told reporters at a press conference on Sunday.
Wang Shaoqiang, chief curator of the Triennial and director of GDMoA, introduced that the theme "The Warm-beings" stems from a reflection on modernist design and a re-examination of the essential problems of design. Designers hope to endow their works with deeper cultural connotations and humanistic values to bring people more spiritual pursuit and emotional resonance and to enhance people's affinity and recognition for their works.

The Triennial will run through May 31, 2024, featuring a theme exhibition, a community project, a file and document exhibition, an array of forums, and several public activities. Nearly 100 designers and artists from 27 countries and regions will participate in the theme exhibition, showcasing their design works with "warmth" from different cultural backgrounds.

In addition, the community project aims to delve into the practical aspects of how "design" can function as a crucial tool in addressing social problems, building sustainable communities, and advancing resource management. Throughout the Triennial, this section will partner with exceptional community projects to host on-site activities, aiming to invite the public to explore the transformative power of design in communities.
