Today (August 7) marks the Start of Autumn.
The Start of Autumn (Chinese:立秋) is the 13th solar term of the year and the first one of autumn. On this day, the sun reaches 135° celestial longitude. After entering the autumn, things on earth begin to lose vitality, contrary to what it's like in spring.
As the ancients put it, it would be cooler after the night of the Start of Autumn. However, you can still feel the summer heat in this solar term. Therefore, the Start of Autumn doesn't signal the end of hot weather, which is even more obvious in Guangzhou, a southern city in China.
This solar term's arrival means that autumn is approaching, and half a year has already passed by like a fleeting show. But what autumn brings us is more than melancholic caused by the fleeting of time. Unfinished stories in summer will be continued in autumn.
