Today (July 7) marks the beginning of Minor Heat.
Minor Heat (Chinese: 小暑) is the 11th solar term of the year. When the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 105°, the Minor Heat period starts. Minor Heat signals the coming of Sanfu Days, or dog days of summer. During this period, people will easily turn fatigued and lose their appetite. Therefore, there is an old saying: "During the Minor Heat and Major Heat period, people don't bother to cook."
However, in Guangzhou, Minor Heat often comes together with typhoons and thunderstorms. Heavy rain is like a seasoning in the dull life, injecting a touch of vitality into the sultry weather and welcoming back the long-lost coolness in the hot summer days. Whether it's sunny or cloudy, we can all have a bright life.
