Update | Death toll up to 48 after road collapse in Guangdong's Meizhou

The attendees of the press conference all rise to observe a minute of silence for the victims of the road collapse disaster.

Till 2 p.m. this afternoon, May 2nd, the death toll has reached 48 after part of a road collapsed in Guangdong's Meizhou. The DNA of three is being further confirmed, while 30 other people are suffering non-life threatening injuries, according to a press conference held by the local authority in the afternoon of May 2nd.

Wang Hui, Mayor of Meizhou, said the city seized the golden time for rescue, dispatching  a total of 577 people from the field of emergency management, public security, fire protection, medical health, transportation and communication, mobilizing 64 rescue vehicles of various types to carry out blanket search and rescue. The rescue work is still underway in an orderly manner.
