As of 5:30 a.m., May 2nd, the death toll rose to 36 after part of a road collapsed in Guangdong's Meizhou, leading to 23 cars trapped and another 30 people injured, with none in life-threatening condition, according to local authorities. The collapse happened around 2:10 a.m. ,May 1st on a section of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Meizhou. Disaster management and mitigation was proceeding in an orderly manner.

Since blood was badly in need to rescue the wounded, Meizhou had set up 14 blood donation points in various districts and counties, calling for more volunteers with qualified physical conditions from all walks of life to participate in blood donation and help save the lives of the wounded together.

Even though it rained from time to time from 4 p.m. ,May 1st, a steady stream of people came to donate blood in each blood donation point. By dinner time, there were still long lines at many blood donation sites.

"I came to queue this afternoon when I saw the message calling for blood donation. I donated 200 milliliters," said a volunteer who surnames Chen. He said he came with his friends, there were a lot of people at the Meixian District People's Square blood donation point and they queued for a long time to donate blood.

"When trouble occurs at one spot, help comes from all quarters. This is what we should do," Chen pointed out.
