Update | Death toll rises to 36 after road collapse in Meizhou

As of 5:30 a.m. on May 2, the death toll rose to 36 after part of a road collapsed in Guangdong's Meizhou, leading to 23 cars trapped and another 30 people injured, with none in life-threatening condition, according to local authorities.

The collapse happened around 2:10 a.m. on May 1 on a section of the Meizhou-Dabu Expressway in Meizhou. Disaster management and mitigation was proceeding in an orderly manner. Guangdong authorities dispatched emergency response to the site, emphasizing that Guangdong will spare no effort to carry out rescue and relief work, and make every effort to minimize casualties and losses.
