The Guangdong Museum of Art (GDMOA) recently put on several exhibitions in Guangzhou, presenting the finest works of several artists. For art lovers, there is always something worth travelling for.
Historical Scenery: Zhang Zhenjiang's Works
Date: April 19 - May 7, 2023
Venue: Hall 5/6, Guangdong Museum of Art
Artist of the exhibition, Zhang Zhenjiang, is a professor from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and received a doctorate from the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Influenced by Anselm Kiefer, a pioneer and leading figure in the German neo-expressionism art movement from the 1960s, Zhang Zhenjiang is currently one of the artists who pay close attention to history and society, military affairs, and real-time images. Zhang is good at using his unique compositional perspective and broad brushstrokes to create solid shapes and emphasize the narrative attributes of his works.
This exhibition displays the contemporary painting works of Zhang Zhenjiang in the past decade, and reflects the evolution of Zhang's style from abstract materials to concrete narratives in the past ten years, as well as his continuous attention to the development and changes of the times.
Pleasant Fragrance: Exhibition of Chinese Freehand Flower-and-bird Paintings by He Weiyi
Date: April 19 - May 7, 2023
Venue: Hall 8/9, Guangdong Museum of Art
This exhibition exhibits about 100 Chinese freehand flower and bird paintings created by contemporary female painter He Weiyi from the 1970s to the present.
He Weiyi was born into a scholarly family and studied from several famous masters of the Lingnan School of Painting. She participated in three consecutive Asian modern art exhibitions in Japan from 1994 to 1996.
Based on long-term, in-depth research on brush and ink techniques of Lingnan flower and bird painting, He Weiyi pays attention to the organic connection between ancient painting copying, location sketching and free creation, and integrates Chinese classical techniques and modern Western forms ingeniously and flexibly in creation.
She boldly draws on the expressive colour concept of modern Western painting, and her rich and varied subjective colours convey the painter's deep affection and love for the scenery of Lingnan.
These masterpieces of He Weiyi's freehand flower and bird paintings offer a novel perspective of the lush, vibrant, and beautiful subtropical scenery in the Lingnan region, evoking people's desire for pristine natural ecology.
He Xianning and China Women Artists Association—Prospect of Women's Art Movement in the First Half of the 20th Century
Date: April 20 - May 14, 2023
Venue: Hall 10/11/12, Guangdong Museum of Art
The achievements and contributions of Chinese female artists in the Chinese art circle in the 20th century have left a significant legacy for the history of female art development in the multicultural era.
The exhibition takes He Xiangning and 11 other artists' artistic exploration process as the main line, and presents the creative fragments of the 12 female artists in three chapters.
The works collected by the He Xiangning Art Museum and related documents, together with some commercially borrowed works and materials form this "20th Century Chinese Women's Art Research Series".
The exhibition includes representative works of the above 12 artists, as well as letters, periodicals, newspaper clippings, photos and other documents of the Republic of China. Through physical objects, images, audio, video and other means, it unveils the spiritual image and mentality of "women" under the specific social and cultural background of China since the 20th century.
It comprehensively presents the development and outstanding achievements of women in the field of Chinese art in the 20th century, and reveals the main problems faced by women's art in that century and the unique ways to respond to these problems.
Zhang Zhaoying: The Fairy Tale of Today
Date: April 19 - May 12, 2023
Venue: Hall No. 7, the Guangdong Museum of Art
When well-known artists, artworks, plays and classic characters break out of the original logic and are seemingly unrelatedly recombined, what will happen?
By building new connections for the characters and objects in the paintings, Guangdong artist Zhang Zhaoying creates a surreal, theatrical fantasy for us in his latest solo exhibition "Zhang Zhaoying: The Fairy Tale of Today".
The exhibition kicked off at Hall No. 7 of the Guangdong Museum of Art (GDMOA) on April 19, and will run through May 12. It is the No. 29 exhibition of the "No. 7 Space: GDMOA Young Artist Academic Nomination" project.
The works on display include some paintings and installations from Zhang Zhaoying's series of "Life props", "Life soap opera", and "Letters". Visitors may initially feel strange or even weird, but these artworks provide new thinking and imagination.
