The Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province released the Guangdong Economic Semi-annual Report recently. Compared with the same period of last year, the economic growth of Guangdong is slow down in the first half of 2014. However, the eastern, western and northern Guangdong still possess great potential in development.

The eastern Guangdong refers to the Chaoshan area, where is one of the most famous hometowns of oversea Chinese. The western Guangdong is closer to Guangxi Province. It has the reputation for the petrochemical industry in Maoming. The northern Guangdong, where is known as mountain area, is adjacent to Jiangxi and Hunan.

In 2013, the per capita GDP of Guangdong ranked the eighth among the 31 provinces (Except Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan) in China. However, if we just calculate the per capita GDP of eastern, western and northern Guangdong, the per capita GDP of Guangdong in 2013 will rank fourth from the last among the 31 provinces in China. The Guangdong government thus released the Decision of Promoting Economic Development in Eastern, Western and Northern Guangdong. The policy defines a development framework for these three regions. The Guangdong government requires the cities in these regions to reach or exceed the national average, which is about 40,602 RMB in 2013, before 2020. The government also set a timetable for the cities to boost them to reach the minimum standard, which is equal to the national average of the per capita GDP. The major construction projects, which contain steel industry, petrochemical industry and transportation infrastructures, were built up. The government convinced that these projects could narrow the economic gap between these regions and the Pearl River Delta area.
