Canton Fair Phase 2: home furnishings attracting global procurement

On April 24th, the second day of the 135th Canton Fair Phase 2, both domestic and foreign merchants still showed undiminished enthusiasm. It is reported that this edition of the fair has placed special emphasis on high-quality home furnishing products, which cover an exhibition area of 515,000 square meters, with 24,658 booths hosted by a total of 9,820 enterprises. Several enterprises received intent orders worth millions yuan on the first day, demonstrating rich business opportunities at the fair site.

Shunmei Group from Dehua County, Quanzhou, Fujian Province, which gained significant attention last year for their ceramic products featuring the popular Winter Olympics mascots "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Shuey Rhon Rhon", introduced an even more diversified range of ceramic products, attracting numerous foreign merchants to make their selections.

In addition, Mediterranean-style ceramics are also highly sought after by merchants from Europe and elsewhere, generating a thriving business. According to the representative of Guangdong Sitong Group, which holds a leading position in the ceramics industry in Chaozhou, Guangdong, they received numerous batches of customers and many interested buyers yesterday, the majority of which were expected to confirm orders upon returning to their own places, leading to an estimated growth of orders by 20% to 30% compared to last year.

Mr. Liu, Manager of Zhejiang Linhai Wanxin Lighting, shared something about the current state of the gift industry. In this edition of the fair, lighting brands from Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, made their appearance in groups. The lighting industry is more concentrated in Taizhou and its surrounding areas, where the manufacturing cost is lower compared to that in Guangdong. According to Mr. Liu, Wanxin Lighting has been focusing on the gift industry for 15 years, primarily engaging in export business, with an expected growth of around 30% in 2024. Mr. Liu also expressed his satisfaction with the achievements obtained from the Canton Fair.

What kind of products can capture the overseas market? According to the buyers, the point is to meet the demands of local consumers.

Jiangsu Yancheng Buyu Co., Ltd., which specializes in glass crafts, has been participating in the Canton Fair since 2005. Ms. Qin, the person in charge, shared their expectation to connect with more potential customers in the Canton Fair. Facing the rapidly changing market, buyers are cautious in selecting glass crafts, as many glass craft products are related to holidays like Christmas and tend to become outdated easily. As a result, orders are not placed immediately after their visits and inquiries about the prices. Therefore, timely product updates and the diversification of product range are also key factors contributing to export growth. According to Ms. Qin, new glass craft products in this edition account for 50% of the total, and by autumn, with important holidays like Christmas approaching, this proportion will reach 100%.

Valentina, a German buyer, expressed that her purchasing plans mainly revolved around decorative items and daily necessities, with the former as her priority. As the owner of around 40 supermarkets in Germany, she requires a wide variety of products for purchase. Valentina revealed that her future purchasing plans will be expanded, and she looks forward to procuring more items through the Canton Fair, as on-site purchasing provides a more immediate experience compared to online platforms.

Hulashni, a Pakistani buyer, shared with reporters, "I'm always passionate about exploring new products in China. Every time I attend the Canton Fair, I feel the increasing professionalism, astonished by the abundant innovative designs. That is why I visit every Canton Fair, closely monitoring new product releases and seeking potential new suppliers."
