Roundtable conference in Guangzhou's Nansha promotes GBA business exchanges

The first meeting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Business Roundtable Conference was held in Nansha, Guangzhou on April 25.

The event eyed to bring together the business communities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, explore cooperation opportunities, and create a favorable business environment in the GBA.

Themed "Gathering in the Heart of the GBA and Seeking Innovative Paths", the roundtable conference attracted representatives from  trade and investment promotion agencies, major chambers of commerce and associations, foreign business organizations, large enterprises, think tanks, and commercial legal service institutions in the GBA.

Chen Xiaofeng, President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong Committee, said Nansha was choosen to be the venue of the first roundtable conference,  with a view to helping the business community in the GBA further understand the Nansha Plan issued by China's State Council to promote comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao by opening up Nansha district.

Xie Wei, Deputy Party Secretary of the Nansha Development Zone Party Working Committee, said that Nansha is located at the geographical geometric center of the GBA and will have six cross-river bridges connecting the east and west banks of the Pearl River in the future. Nansha has received important policy support from ministries and commissions, such as relaxing market access and strengthening regulatory system reform, and a comprehensive land management reform pilot.

Constanze Wang, Senior Director of Government Affairs of the AHK (China), said that she is deeply impressed that the GBA is very lively, open, and pragmatic. She suggests that policy interpretation activities for German enterprises could be organized when there are new policies of the GBA published. In addition, she suggests supporting cross-border data exchange in the field of research and development between the GBA and Germany.

Since 70% of German enterprises are small and medium-sized enterprises, their brand recognition in the Chinese market needs to be further improved. She suggested arranging more matching activities between Chinese and German enterprises so that German enterprises can find partners in China.

Klaus Zenkel, Vice President of EU Chamber of Commerce China, said that the prospects for cooperation between the GBA and Europe are bright, encompassing a wide range of fields, from manufacturing to innovation, from physical to digital. "We believe that both sides will find opportunities for collaboration, including the fields of new energy, sustainable development, digital economy, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and high-end manufacturing," said Klaus Zenkel.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Business Roundtable Conference was jointly initiated by the CCPIT Guangdong Committee, the Representative Office of the CCPIT in Hong Kong, and the Representative Office of the CCPIT in Macao. There are currently 48 members of the conference, and it is expected to hold a roundtable conference quarterly, which will be held alternately in 11 cities in the GBA.
