When intangible cultural heritage meets with fashion, what will happen?
Mixing the elements of sunshine, earth and river into the the clothing design, Jin Hui, Chief Designer of the clothing brand “Hometown of Gambiered Guangzhou Gauze” presented a Spring/Summer 2017 collection in the Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week (S/S 2017) in Beijing on October 31, 2016. Gambiered Canton Gauze was the main element for this collection, showcasing the charm of intangible cultural heritage and fashion.
Gambiered Canton Gauze, also called watered gauze, is a kind of traditional and distinctive fabric in Guangdong. It is made of silk with dyeing and finishing of natural plants and minerals. Only after 16 processes by traditional manual techniques which have been handed down for hundreds of years, can the fabric Gambiered Canton Gauze comes into being. Therefore, it is also called “soft gold”. In 2008, it was included in the list of China Intangible Cultural Heritage.
