A ceremony was recently held to announce the establishment of Water Affairs Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality. The newly-established bureau will be responsible for administration concerning water resources, water supply, sewage processing, and administration of enterprises of water supply as well as management of urban waterways. A number of these resources used to be under the charge of the Bureau of Water Resources of Guangzhou Municipality and Bureau of Urban Utilities and Landscaping of Guangzhou Municipality.This program will reorganize enterprises in relation to water resources, water supply and drainage.

Vice Mayor Su Zequn gave high praise to such reforms, saying they are a great step toward replacing the Bureau of Water Resources of Guangzhou Municipality established in 1972 with Water Affairs Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality with the idea to uniformly perform administrations concerning water supply, sewage processing, food control, drainage, allocation of water resources, management of water resources in rural areas etc These functions used to be under the charge of several different government departments. With the establishment of this bureau, the municipal government is expected to realize the overall planning for water safety, water resources, water environment, waterscapes and constructions in relation to water culture. On the other hand, with one organization responsible for water affairs, it is easy to improve efficiency of administration, providing better services for citizens.
