Export in Guangdong in May stopped five-consecutive-month decline, with a 1.9 percent year on year increase to 309.36 billion RMB.

According to the provincial customs, the total foreign trade reached 515.65 billion RMB in May, fell by 1.8 percent, while imports stood at 206.29 billion RMB, with the decline narrowed to 6.9 percent.

Analysts said it’s still a tough task (for Guangdong) to maintain relatively stable foreign trade growth in 2014, despite the improvement of foreign trade situation in May.

Guangdong's total foreign trade totaled 2.4 trillion Yuan, declined by 19.7 percent year-on-year in the first five months of the year, which was 3.8 percentage points narrower than the drop in the first four months. The country's foreign trade fell by 2.2 percent in the first five months.

Processing trade took up 47.1 percent of the total volume, reaching 1.13 trillion RMB, a decline of 18.6 percent. General trade amounted to 969.7 billion RMB, representing 40.5 percent of the total, up 12.8 percent.

In the first five months, European Union is the only major trading partner for Guangdong to fulfill a 10 percent growth in bilateral trade. The export to Hong Kong declined 41.8 percent, and the import and export to Taiwan dropped 36.9 percent.
