The first phase of the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Integrated Bonded Zone passed a joint inspection by national authorities on April 17. Guangzhou Mayor Chen Jianhua attended a ceremony for the release of inspection minutes and for the presentation of a conformance certificate, and delivered a speech. Officials from the General Administration of Customs and Guangdong Provincial Government jointly signed for the receipt of the inspection minutes.

According to its previously released development plan for 2013-2020, the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Integrated Bonded Zone will be built into a free trade zone and a major component of the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone as a national demonstrative aviation economic zone. The plan envisions the creation of an industrial system by 2015, major advancement in the provision of high-end services for aviation finance, exhibitions, and creative culture by 2020, steady improvement of economic strengths, and nationally-leading bonded zones and logistics.
