On February 2, China Southern signed a tripartite cooperation memorandum with Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and SkyTeam Alliance, pledging to perform three service collaboration programs--"SkyPort", "SkyPriority" and "SkyTransit".

It's reported that SkyTeam Alliance is one of the world's three major air alliances, and China Southern is its first member in Greater China region. In the meantime, China Southern is stepping up efforts to construct Guangzhou core hub based on Baiyun Airport. A person in charge of China Southern disclosed that they are committed to building the "Canton Route" different from the traditional "Kangaroo Route" to attract more European passengers to fly to Australia and Singapore via Guangzhou, thus building Guangzhou hub into a transit hub between Europe and Australia or New Zealand. It is learned that Baiyun Airport will invest about RMB 20 billion yuan in constructing the third runway and second terminal in the "twelfth five-year" period, which will then meet the operation demands of 500,000 sorties, 85 million passengers and 2 million tons of cargos and mails.
