Metro Line 11, which will link the Futian and Nanshan CBDs with the Shenzhen airport, is scheduled to start service June 28, a manager of Shenzhen Metro Group said Saturday.
The trip from Futian to Nanshan will be cut down to 15 minutes and the trip to the Shenzhen airport will be cut to 30 minutes.
About 200 people rode the line during a free demo Saturday.
“The date of opening has been preliminarily decided, but hasn’t been announced yet,” Feng Zhe, a public relations manager with Shenzhen Metro Group, said.
The 51.94-km line that starts from Futian Station and ends at Bitou Station in Bao’an will run at 120 kilometers per hour. It will be connected with Dongguan’s rail system in the future.
“The line is wonderful for its speed and its nice view of the sea when the trains are on the elevated bridges in Bao’an District,” said a resident surnamed Luo, who experienced the ride Saturday with his wife and 5-year-old son.
“It is very convenient for air passengers coming and leaving Shenzhen with the opening of Line 11,” Luo added.
The Metro line will adopt a two-tiered fare system for six regular carriages and two business-class carriages. The trip from Futian to the airport costs 7 yuan (US$1.06).
Riders need to pay 2 to 10 yuan. Business-class carriages have starting prices of 6 yuan and a maximum price of 30 yuan.
The line has 10 interchange stations, five of which will be put into operation at the end of this year when Metro lines 7 and 9 are put into service.
