Employers in Guangdong Province shall pay a high temperature allowance to employees working under extremely hot temperatures from June to October.
In June, excessive heat is raging through most parts of China and exposing workers to difficult and potentially dangerous conditions. That means it is necessary for companies to provide the high temperature allowance to outdoor employees. According to regulations from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resource and Social Security, employers should pay the high temperature allowance to workers who labor outdoors in temperatures at or above 35℃. Employers also are required to pay the allowance if they fail to take effective measures to lower the temperature of indoor workplaces to below 33℃ from June to October.
The standard of high temperature allowance is 150 RMB per person per month, or, if an employee can not attend due to work-related injuries or other factors, the allowance could be converted to 6.9 RMB per person per day.
Companies also should offer cool beverages to employees working under high temperature, and the costs of such cold drinks can not be used as the high temperature allowance.
