The Guangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau released an emergency air pollution plan recently.
The plan calls for the whole city to reduce their vehicle use when the air quality is severely polluted. If very serious air pollution is going to last for one day or more, vehicles without environmental protection marks will be banned from the road and odd-and-even-license-plate car restrictions will be issued.
The new plan set 4 air pollution alert degrees (blue, yellow, orange and red) from light to heavy.
The alert will be issued when heavy or severe air pollution appear, and it will be ended when the daily average air quality index (AQI) is not going to exceed 200 for at least following two days.
Pollution alert are classed as "Blue" and "Yellow" when heavy air pollution is to last for one day and two days or more; "Orange" and "Red" means very serious air pollution is to last for one day and two days or more, according to the newly issued emergency plan.
