Construction of a new venue for the Shenzhen Social Welfare Center in Longhua New Area is going smoothly, the city’s public works bureau said.
The 10 buildings, which are located to the north of Guanguang Road in Guanlan Subdistrict, will be put into use at the end of next year.
Covering an area of 40,311 square meters, the project will cost about 200,000 yuan (US$31,300) to finish. An additional 300 beds for seniors and 700 beds for children will be made available upon completion of the project.
The number of senior residents in Shenzhen is expected to reach 480,000 this year and more than 600,000 by 2020 against the backdrop of inadequate nursing facilities for the elderly.
Meanwhile, the number of children that the welfare center takes in is also increasing.
