The fire caused by the massive firework explosion of Yuetong Firework Storehouse in Sanshui, Foshan, was finally put out at 8 am, Feb 15 after burning for 30 hours. Luckily, no people were killed in the accident, and so far, the injured are under treatment in local hospital. According to the expert, the explosion may be caused by the firework鈥檚 self ignition or someone setting fire in the storage room.

Local government has opened emergency shelters and offer food, water and quilts to the affected residents soon after the explosion.

Today, the affected residents are allowed to go back home and the compensation claim work begin. The local environmental protection unit is monitoring the environment quality of the explosion site and the surrounding area.

According to Information Times, a local newspaper, bodies of dead fishes and ducks were seen scattered in or near the pools that are close to the storehouses.

All the 20 rooms of the Firework Storehouse were destroyed, together with 15,000 boxes of fireworks and crackers that were to be exported.

The accident is expected to lead to the close of Sanshui Port, which accounts for 60 percent of the firework and cracker exportation of China. Over 1,000 domestic enterprises will suffered a 200 million USD lost, especially the enterprises in Liuyang and Liling of Hunan and Wanzai of Jiangxi.

Liuyang Fireworks (600599 SH) saw its stock drop by 4.68 percent after the explosion.
