The Ballet Teatro Espanol de Rafael Aguilar will present flamenco dance show "Carmen" in Shenzhen later this month.
Based on the story and music of Bizet's masterpiece "Carmen," Spanish choreographer Rafael Aguilar has created a fascinating, erotic dance drama that fuses the expressionism of modern ballet with traditional Spanish dance. The audience can't help but be drawn into a maelstrom of emotions thanks to a hot mixture of flamenco and bolero with subliminal dance scenes and sensual choreography. Using these elements in "Carmen," Aguilar has created a timeless dance drama that sets him apart from other Spanish choreographers of classical flamenco. This flamenco-extravaganza is both a benchmark of Spanish dance theater and one of the most sensual and erotic choreographies of all times.
Aguilar founded his troupe in 1960 and died in 1995. His wife and co-founder Manuela died in 1998. The continuity of his choreography is in the hands of Carmen Salinas, a dancer who was there at the start and became his assistant. Currently, Ballet Teatro Espanol de Rafael Aguilar consists of 35 dancers. Its repertoire includes a great variety of its founder's choreographies, including the award-winning "Matador," "EI Rango" and "Diquela de la Alhambra."
