This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Apart from grand signature projects, "small but beautiful" sustainable projects have been bringing new impetus to reshape the lifestyle and well-being of BRI-participating countries over the past 10 years.
The Port Vila City Community Sports Complex, located in the Agathis community in Port Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu, is an example of a “small but beautiful” project. In response to the community, Foshan city of south China's Guangdong province funded the Sports Complex as an outcome of the sister-city relationship with Port Vila.
The Sports Complex was constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and was handed over to Port Vila City Council in 2022, which marks the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between China and Vanuatu as well as the 5th year of the sister city relationship between Foshan and Port Vila.
In this episode, GDToday reporter, joining hands with Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC), went to the Agathis community and the CCECC South Pacific Limited to explore what the Sports Complex means to local residents and how a Chinese company has integrated itself into the local society.
