From July 21 to August 25, the Guangdong Museum will extend its opening hours to 8:30 pm on Fridays, according to Xiao Haiming, the curator of the Guangdong Museum.
“We hope to alleviate the situation of ‘hard-to-get’ tickets during the holiday season, meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the people, and bring a unique night-time experience to all visitors,” Xiao told GDToday reporters.
On July 21, the 2023 Summer Museum Night kicked off with a dancing party. Characters from the paintings of the “Splendour: Art in the Age of Victoria” exhibition, including a whistling boy, a girl in a peony dress, a rose-maker and a violinist, flashed around visitors and then performed a wonderful Scottish dance. Accompanied by a melodious violin, the waltz made the audience feel the romance of the Victorian era.
Except for balls, a series of activities such as concerts, lectures, workshops, and special guided tours will be launched on Friday nights at the museum. Parents and children can enjoy exquisite artifacts and share happy moments together during the Special Family Tour. At the exit of the Syria Antiquities exhibition, people can experience the fun of making clay figures and appreciate the charm of colored pottery.
In addition, Guangdong Museum has rolled out a 96 RMB ticket package during the 2023 Summer Museum Night. Those who buy the package can admire one major exhibition, “An Exhibition of Antiquities from Ancient Syria”, and enjoy a concert, “Splendour: Art in the Age of Victoria”.
