The passenger volume of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (Hong Kong section) reached over 17 million as of November 19, surpassing the total number of passengers in 2019, according to Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation.
Furthermore, during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Holiday (September 30), more than 100,000 people took the rail, hitting a new record.
The number of cross-border trains to Guangzhou and Shenzhen has been increased to further meet the passengers’ traveling needs. At the same time, the train route from Chengdu East Railway Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station has been extended to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.
At present, the Hong Kong section of the high-speed rail is connected with seven cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing) and 73 stations in the Chinese Mainland.
Earlier this year, the Hong Kong section resumed service, and mainland travelers have accounted for more than half of the passenger volume since March. The number of mainland tourists using the high-speed train services after July also exceeded that of the same period back in 2019.
In addition, a flexible travel service was launched in mid-August this year. Travelers who are going from Futian Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station can now enjoy the benefit of being able to change their tickets for free up to three times on the same day of departure.
