Shenzhen shares latest tech advancement with global partners

“Right now, China is still the only cashless society in the entire world, which amazes me up to now. You just need to bring your phone to buy anything,” said Mariano Jeremy Timbol, Senior Engineer of ZTE Corporation.

Timbol came to Shenzhen 15 years ago, where there were no technological breakthroughs such as e-payment. In his view, it shows the rapid infrastructure development in China. He furthered, “If you are away from China for 6 months, you will see something new is being constructed at a fast pace once you come back.”

“ZTE began to go global in 1996, and its business has spread to more than 160 countries and regions around the world. The BRI brings us more help and opportunities.” Chen Zhiping, Vice President of ZTE, told GDToday.

In Bangladesh, ZTE has cooperated with the local government to build the country’s first Tier IV National Data Center (NDC). The company also joined hands with Ncell, a Nepali mobile service provider, to build a base station at Mt. Qomolangma base camp, which is at an altitude of 5,363 meters in Nepal. Since its opening in 2010, it has provided quality communication services for local people and hundreds of thousands of mountaineers.

During the trip on Shenzhen's first SkyShuttle, BYD engineer Muhammad Hummayun Yousaf told GDToday, “In Pakistan, we have a lot of different projects which the government is conducting with the Chinese government.”

Yousaf has been living in China for more than three years. Having finished his master’s degree at Tsinghua University, he chose BYD to develop his career. He witnessed that there are a lot of people who come to China for work and to complete projects.

“Due to the cooperation under BRI, a lot of people come from Pakistan to China. So it's an exchange of education and technology, a considerable number of Chinese companies have already expanded their businesses in Pakistan, and in the future we will see positive results,” he added.
