When the durian season comes, containers imported from Southeast Asia can be unloaded via Guangzhou Port, delivered to the Jiangnan Fruit & Vegetable Wholesale Market in Baiyun District in less than 2 hours.

According to Guangzhou Port, the main commodity imported from Southeast Asia via Nansha Port is fruit while major exports are furniture, home appliances as well as mechanical and electrical products.

“Nansha Port has currently opened more than 130 routes along the BRI countries. The number of BRI routes has increased by more than 10 every year since 2016. It’s a feature of Nansha Port,” said Fan Jianwen, Deputy General Manager of the Production Business Department of Guangzhou Port.

Nansha Port has a passing capacity of more than 24 million TEUs, and its container throughput is expected to exceed 19 million this year, taking a leading place in the country in terms of a single port.

He added, “As the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) took effect in January 2022, the supply of goods between China and ASEAN has increased, which is a very important factor to intensify our routes along the BRI countries.”

As a supporting railway hub of Nansha Port and a sea-rail intermodal loading and unloading base, the Nansha Port South Railway Station was put into operation on February 8, 2022.

Earlier in April, this railway station opened a new route for Homa, the largest refrigerator exporter in China over the past 14 years. A staff at the railway station told GDToday, there are about 50 trains to ship Homa refrigerators per day, and the cost of rail transportation can be reduced by 20 percent, compared with previous road transport.

At present, there are 36 rail routes connecting Nansha Port with Central Asia and Central Europe.
