​Zhaoqing welcomes its first world artistic swimming junior champion

In the early hours of September 2nd (Beijing time), the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming Junior Championships concluded in Lima, Peru. The National Youth Artistic Swimming Team of China stood out among 36 countries, winning the gold medal in the Team Free event. One of the team members, He Zhien, hailing from Zhaoqing, Guangdong province, secured two gold medals for the Chinese team, thus becoming Zhaoqing's first champion in the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming Junior Championships.

Held from August 28th to September 1st in Lima, Peru, the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming Junior Championships is one of the highest-level events in artistic swimming, featuring 11 categories including Women Solo Technical, Men Solo Technical, Team Technical, and Mixed Duet Technical, with a total of 260 athletes from 36 countries participating.

On the first day of the competition, He Zhien and her teammates clinched the gold in the Team Technical event. On the final day, she teamed up with her teammates again for the Team Free event, securing yet another gold medal.

Born in 2007 in Deqing County, Zhaoqing City, He Zhien joined the Guangdong Provincial Artistic Swimming Team in 2020. She has earned several gold and silver medals at provincial artistic swimming events and won two gold medals in women's duet and mixed team categories at China's first Student (Youth) Games in 2023. Subsequently, He Zhien was selected for the National Artistic Swimming Team, becoming the first athlete from Zhaoqing to achieve this honor.
