Typhoon Yagi, the 11th typhoon of this year, has developed into a super typhoon at level 17, packing winds of up to 58 m per second. At 5 am on September 5, its center was located in the northern sea of the South China Sea, about 630 kilometers east-south of Xuwen county-level city, Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province.
In response to the approaching storm, Guangdong upgraded its emergency response to the highest level at 10 am on September 5.

Yagi is expected to move westward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, maintaining its strength. It is forecasted to make landfall between Dianbai District, Maoming, Guangdong, and Hainan on September 6, during the afternoon or evening. The typhoon will likely hit as a strong or super typhoon at level 15 to 17. After landfall, Yagi is expected to weaken as it moves into the Beibu Gulf and eventually towards the China-Vietnam border.
According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), coastal areas in Guangdong will experience strong winds ranging from level 6 to 8 on September 5 and 6, while areas near the typhoon's center could see winds as high as level 13 to 17, with gusts exceeding 17. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted, with parts of southern Guangdong bracing for torrential downpours.
A total of 84,873 fishing boats in Guangdong had returned to ports to take shelter, and 10,221 fishing farm workers had also been evacuated, according to the provincial emergency management department.
