As spring whispers in, the 2025 Art Week Shenzhen is set to kick off on March 23 at the Sea World Culture and Arts Center.
Rooted in the dynamic and innovative fabric of Shenzhen, this year's art week embraces local institutions and upholds the core values of "symbiosis, openness, and creation."
With an open stance toward diverse artistic expressions, the event explores innovative dialogues and resonances within a contemporary context, showcasing the city's inclusive and vibrant cultural spirit.
A collaborative and expansive artistic ecosystem
For 2025, Art Week Shenzhen brings together 69 local institutions, including 8 art museums, 24 galleries, 25 comprehensive art institutions, and 12 artist studios, to present an extensive program that transcends traditional spatial boundaries.
Compared to the inaugural year's 40-plus participants, this expanded lineup highlights the continuous growth of Shenzhen's art scene and the deep-rooted trust and shared values among these cultural entities.
Attendees can enjoy nearly 80 exhibitions across diverse disciplines such as painting, sculpture, installations, and new media, capturing the pulsating art rhythm of Shenzhen.
Open studio sessions, a glimpse into creative lives
For the first time, Art Week Shenzhen introduces an "Artist Studio" segment. Eleven local contemporary artists, alongside architects and designers who closely engage with today's art, will open their creative spaces to the public. This initiative provides a rare opportunity to witness the creative process firsthand and experience the vibrant spark of inspiration that fuels Shenzhen's art scene.
Engaging art activities and interactive experiences
Salon: "Voices of the Tide: Art, City, and Future"
As the sea breeze caresses Shenzhen Bay, the Jing Shan Theater at the Sea World Cultural Art Center will transform into a coastal beacon of dialogue. On the afternoon of March 28, the Art Week Director will host this salon, bringing together eight practitioners whose work resonates with Shenzhen's urban pulse. They will share insights on art design, cultural heritage, and urban development—an engaging conversation designed for both professionals and art enthusiasts alike.
Institutional programs: A network of creative dialogues
Participating institutions will independently curate dozens of discussion sessions and interactive events. These decentralized initiatives encourage free-flowing ideas and spirited debates, enabling visitors to navigate across different districts and experience the multi-faceted dynamics of Shenzhen's art ecosystem.
Outdoor film screenings: A nocturnal visual journey
From March 24 to 29, an outdoor theater by the seaside will light up each evening at 19:30, presenting a curated selection of rare archival films. Against the backdrop of the gentle lapping of waves and under the starlit sky, this immersive screening promises to weave a timeless narrative that reflects the spirit of this migratory city.
Art walk: A living urban canvas
The "Art Walk" segment invites 13 art guides to lead visitors along 16 meticulously planned routes. These walks traverse galleries, studios, historical landmarks, and natural landscapes, transforming the city into a dynamic narrative space where art seamlessly blends with everyday life.
