The show is also the closing concert of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra 2022/2023 Music Season as well as a part of the Xinghai Concert Hall 25th Anniversary Season.
Das Rheingold is the first of four music dramas that constitute Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), telling the story of the gods, giants, and Nibelungs fighting for the Rhine gold. This concert version gathers 14 singers worldwide including tenor Christopher Ventris, mezzo-soprano Aude Extrémo, bass-baritone Leigh Melrose, and tenor Barry Banks, with over 100 artists from the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra playing the French horn, Wagner tuba, trumpet, contrabass trombone, and harp.
In addition, the show arranges setting and lighting to drive the plot forward, and the stage concept is designed by Dan Potra and Zou Shuan, director of the Beijing Music Festival.
"The concert version of the opera uses the form of a concert to present the complete content of the opera." Chen Qing, president of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, added that the outstanding sound field in the Xinghai Concert Hall will enhance the musical performance.
