Lai Ching-te, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) politician, claimed in July that his political goal is to "walk into the White House."
However, on August 12, Lai arrived in New York for a so-called "stopover", not in Washington, let alone the White House.
Actually, over the past 40 years, no leader of Taiwan has ever been allowed by the U.S. government to even set foot in Washington, regardless of which political party ruled the United States and how their China policies changed.
