The new Guangzhou Bridge will open to traffic on October 2 and by then the old one will be closed to receive a 6-month renovation.
With the old bridge’s closure, there are changes to the traffic pattern. Cars towards Ersha Island from the north of Guangzhou Bridge should go over the new bridge and get into the west ramp; in the opposite direction, those towards the south should pass over the east ramp, then go north along the bridge and finally turn south above Wuyang Tunnel.
Some changes have also been made to the bus routes. Bus B21, 89 and 194 towards the north will return to their original stop at Datong Road (Ersha East) from Qingbo Road. Bus 131A towards the south will go over the Guangzhou Bridge from the east ramp and turn around above Wuyang Tunnel.
The new bridge project was started two years ago as to ease the increasing traffic pressure. It is estimated that the opening of the new bridge will bring a 14%-21% increase in average traffic speed of Guangzhou Avenue.
Located at the east of Guangzhou downtown, Guangzhou bridge is across Pearl river and Ersha Island, connecting the north and the south of Guangzhou Avenue.
