Police and firemen inspect the accident scene at a construction site near Tung Chung in Hong Kong on Thursday.

A worker was killed and 15 others injured — two seriously — when they were hit by falling metal bars at the future site of a massive bridge across the Pearl River estuary. The men were struck by a bundle of metal bars that broke free as a crane lifted them at 10:30 a.m. The construction site for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project is on an artificial island just east of Chek Lap Kok Airport.Xinhua
