A total of 38 sets of colorful land and water lanterns will be displayed at Lizhi Bay.

A wide array of events, including boat tours, lantern fairs, and lantern puzzle guessing games, will be staged across Guangzhou to usher in the New Year. On the evening of December 31, Lizhi Bay will be turned into a sea of lanterns as a massive land and water lantern fair will kick off here.

Liwan Scenic Area Administration Center officials announced on December 28 that the lantern fair will run from December 31 to February 6 (the traditional Lantern Festival) at the first and second phases of Lizhi Bay and on the surface of Liwan Lake. As Lizhi Bay's first lantern show, the upcoming lantern fair will feature 38 sets of sizable lanterns, more than 100 red lanterns, and nearly 100 sets of LED meteor shower light tubes.

More than 80% of the lighting fixtures will be permanently fixed along Lizhi Bay, becoming part of the scenic area. They will come on every night, turning Lizhi Bay into a sparkling body of water."This will be the first lantern fair at Lizhi Bay," said the head of the Liwan Scenic Area Administration Center.

As the second phase of the Lizhi Stream renovation project is due to open on the New Year's Day, this upcoming lantern fair will be based at the first and second phases of the project and Liwan Lake to take advantage of the waterscapes, bridge, square, lake surface and green belts on both banks of the lake to create spectacular sights with lanterns of all shapes and sizes.

On the evening of December 31, a grand lighting ceremony will be staged at the second-phase square of Lizhi Bay to usher in the New Year. The second phase of the project will be open to the public on the same evening. Visitors may take a boat to tour the creek and the lake. A tour ride will be extended from 40 minutes to 90 minutes, yet the fare will be kept unchanged at 50 yuan per person.(Translated by Guangzhou Association of Foreign Affairs Translators)
