Smart policing safeguards Guangzhou’s security

According to a press conference held by Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau on July 30th, Guangzhou police has developed some new technologies such as big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence in police work, comprehensively improving the application of intelligence in information sharing, public security, traffic management and more.

“The integration of information technology into the police work breaks the traditional policing, increases the case handling efficiency and upgrades the social governance model,” said Cai Wei, Deputy Head of Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau. “Guangzhou police vows to establish Guangzhou as the most safe and stable city in China. ”

At the press conference, Cai stated that a data acquisition mechanism has been established by Guangzhou police to integrate all public security data and social information resources into a big data base.

Furthermore, over 923, 000 cameras have been installed in Guangzhou for public security. After applying video cloud and face recognition technology to the security of Guangzhou Railway Station, the criminal case filing in 2017 dropped to one-tenth of that in 2004, and no criminal cases were seen in a consecutive 260 days in the railway station.

"Internet + signal lamp" to improve traffic efficiency

Smart policing has also been put into use in traffic system. Through analyzing the data from navigation apps, Didi car-hailing app and traffic monitoring, Guangzhou police can manage the traffic congestion in time.

At present, 10 to 20 percent efficiency improvements have been seen in 13 districts in terms of easing traffic congestion and improving traffic order.
