On the morning of August 14, the Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) launched its inauguration ceremony to welcome 222 new students from 12 provinces.

“The students here who choose to study in GTIIT will be proud of your choice in the future,” said Li Jiange, Chancellor of GTIIT.
"I hope we could introduce the leading education concept and innovative ideas from Israel to China through this cooperation," added Li, and eventually "build a‘Silicon Valley’in South China."
Israel Institute of Technology is one of top ten science and technology research universities in the world with lots of notable alumni as scientists. Hence, the establishment of GTIIT in Shantou is a great event for the city, said Lin Yimin, vice mayor of Shantou. The government will further support development of GTIIT to train innovation talents for Guangdong and the country.
"We will have more opportunity to develop our abilities as students in the first enrollment of GTIIT," said Liu Xinya, a new student from Hubei, Wuhan.
It is said that all new students will have a six-week preliminary course including English, Mathematics and Physics since August 16. The course will be given in English.
