Shenzhen opened new waterway service to offer supplies to Hong Kong

To help Hong Kong fight against COVID-19, a new daily sea service shipping supplies to Hong Kong was launched on March 1 at Shenzhen’s Yantian International Container Terminals.

Operated by COSCO shipping, the first ship was full loaded with 748 tons of epidemic prevention items and daily necessities including 1.65 million nucleic test kits. It is currently the largest batch of medical supplies sent to Hong Kong via Yantian.

Dedicated berths and docks, and “zero delay” in customs clearance of related goods have been assigned to ensure steady waterway cargo supplies at the Terminal. More ships and routes are expected to be added to safeguard a smooth goods transportation channel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, according to the Terminal and COSCO.
Since February 21, 4,000 TEUs of supplies have been shipped to Hong Kong through Shenzhen’s major ports including Yantian International Container Terminals, Dachan Bay Terminals and Shekou Terminals. Now the ports has been equipped with the capacity to handle at least 3,000 TEUs of goods per day.

On March 1, the daily transportation volume for the three terminals exceeded 300 TEUs, weighing more than 2,000 tons, with fresh food taking up 1/3.
