During the 20th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), the Frankfurt Book Fair made its debut in Shenzhen, which marks an important moment for China and Germany. German Sinologist, Prof. Dr. Ole Doering, expressed his affection for this development, emphasizing a symbol for a new perspective in China-Germany relationship.
Since its inception in 1949, the Frankfurt Book Fair has witnessed many notable milestones, with China's participation as the Guest of Honor in 2009 being a particular highlight. This year's event in Shenzhen has drawn large crowds, fostering a vibrant and open-minded atmosphere that he described as "very nice and inviting."
Beyond showcasing Frankfurt's literary works, the fair featured contributions from various countries and companies. Prof. Dr. Ole Doering stressed the enduring importance of physical books in shaping future generations' education. He underscored the significance of reading physical books as a fundamental aspect of humanity, “It's the way in which we read a book that shows we are as humans. So I think this is the most important thing that this fair reminds us about humanity.”
Reflecting on the diversity of Guangdong's culture, Prof. Dr. Ole Doering, who has been traveling to China for over 30 years, highlighted the region's rich cultural tapestry and his extensive collaborations in both scientific and cultural domains in Shenzhen.
As an author and Sinologist, he is committed to deepening understanding and bridging cultural gaps between China and Europe through his writings. His dedication to fostering mutual understanding between the two sides underscores the importance of cultural exchange in an increasingly interconnected world.
On May 24, at the 20th ICIF, the Frankfurt Book Fair released the 2024 spring season German children's new books in Shenzhen, a total of 44 kinds.
In November 2023, Mr. Ding Shizhao, President of the ICIF, visited the Frankfurt Book Fair and reached the agreement to bring the Book Fair and new release to the city.
