Another major project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has been completed! The Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage opened to traffic at 3:00 PM on December 11, with toll-free travel in its initial stage.
The Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Bridge starts from Pingsha Town, Gaolangang Economic Zone, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, spans the Huangmaohai waters of Yamenkou to the west, and ends in Doushan Town, Taishan, Jiangmen City.
The route is approximately 31 kilometers long, with about 14 kilometers of it being over the sea. Two main bridges, Gaolangang Bridge and Huangmaohai Bridge, are set up across the sea segment.
The two bridges feature a total of five main towers, innovatively adopting a fiber-waisted single-column "hourglass" design. Each tower stands as tall as a 90-story building, with the widest point being 18 meters and the narrowest point exceeding 8 meters.
The "hourglass" design minimizes the impact on the navigation of large cargo ships and reduces the impact of wind forces, given the frequent occurrence of typhoons in the Huangmaohai waters. Its sleek and graceful appearance complements the natural scenery of Huangmaohai, making it a new landmark building in the GBA.
Upon its opening, the travel time between Taishan in Jiangmen City and Jinwan District in Zhuhai City will be shortened to about 30 minutes. This adds a "critical horizontal link" in the Huangmaohai waters, filling the gap in the highway network of this area.
Meanwhile, the cluster of cross-sea and cross-river bridges in the GBA has officially taken shape, enabling the economic development of the GBA to radiate towards western Guangdong and coastal areas. This further strengthens the connection between cities in western Guangdong and those in the GBA, improving the construction of the transportation network in the GBA.
