GBA private entrepreneurs discuss modern industrial development in Dongguan

On February 24, Guangdong held a conference in Dongguan to promote the construction of a modern industrial system for private enterprises.

The conference aims to establish a platform for precise cooperation and the transformation of scientific research achievements, giving full play to the technological and industrial advantages of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and supporting private enterprises in building a modern industrial system. Sixty cooperation projects were signed on-site, with a total signed amount of RMB 29.82608 billion.

Chen Zhilie, Chairman of the Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce (General Chamber of Commerce) and Chairman of the Board of the EVOC Group, said, "In the eyes of our private entrepreneurs, there are no sunset industries, only sunset enterprises." He emphasized that Guangdong's private enterprises play a crucial role in economic development, actually contributing to 55% of Guangdong's GDP and 70% of its scientific research and innovation achievements.

Chen further exemplified, "In Shenzhen, 90% of invention patents, 90% of R&D personnel, and 90% of innovation achievements come from enterprises."

Huang Jianping, Chairman of the Dongguan Federation of Industry and Commerce (General Chamber of Commerce) and Chairman of Marco Polo Holdings, pointed out that Dongguan's manufacturing industry is comprehensive and well-supported by a complete system.

"The new quality productive forces of traditional industries refer to the upgrading of products, intelligent manufacturing, and green production," said Huang. He added that tiles have always been considered an energy-intensive industry, but they are promoting related work based on the concept of a circular economy.

For example, lithium carbonate is extracted from lithium batteries, and originally, about 99% of the extracted material was considered industrial tailings. However, thanks to technological and R&D capabilities, these tailings are now widely used as raw materials for architectural ceramics, thus realizing green manufacturing.

Wu Xueming, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Youth Association, is optimistic about the development potential of private enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence. "We actually signed some projects during this event, mainly concerning the combination of artificial intelligence with traditional industries," he said.

He further elaborated, "I believe artificial intelligence will change the overall landscape and impact every industry. Whether it's reducing costs, increasing productivity, or attracting new talent, these are areas we need to focus on. I think the new wave of artificial intelligence will greatly change people's lifestyles."

When discussing cooperation between private enterprises in Guangdong and Macao, Chen Meiyi, Vice President of the Guangdong General Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chairman of Macau Legend Development Ltd., said, "Macao is actually quite mature in terms of conventions, exhibitions, and tourism. We can collaborate with some enterprises in Guangdong to engage in brand-related cooperation. "

She further elaborated on the prospects for cooperation between Macao and Guangdong in the tourism industry, pointing out that the two sides can jointly create an international brand, especially for GBA tourism, which has the potential to develop into an internationally influential tourist route and be promoted overseas together.

As for cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), Chen said, "Guangdong Province can utilize the platform of Macao to promote certain products to PSCs. Meanwhile, in the financial sector, we can use financing channels in PSCs to develop new markets."
