Editor's Note: The 2023 Beijing Culture Forum, the second of its kind, will kick off in the Chinese capital on September 14. The two-day event focuses on advancing fine culture and promoting exchanges and will see a main forum, five sub-forums, and several related cultural activities. GDToday is presenting a series of interviews with cultural celebrities to give you a glimpse of the upcoming forum and the latest cultural developments in China.
"Since ancient times, the key reason our society can exist primarily lies in the inheritance of culture," said Kirill Solonin from Russia, a Professor at the School of Chinese Classics, Renmin University of China. "When we look at it from this angle, we see that many societies have ceased to exist, like the Ancient Egyptians and Sumerians."
Solonin read some Chinese classics translated into Russian when he was little, like Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Journey to the West, which got him interested in studying or exploring how Chinese culture is passed down.
He pointed out that the museum of every city and even every village in China allows residents as well as tourists to gain a more comprehensive understanding of their cultural heritage and outstanding cultural traditions. "Through these cultural activities, you get to see the incredible diversity and richness of Chinese culture, which is truly a feast for the eyes."
