A glimpse of Shantou Small Park International Lantern Fair

On February 24, the Shantou Small Park International Lantern Fair kicked off at Shantou Small Park, located in the old quarter of Shantou.

The Lantern Festival is the first important festival after the Spring Festival, commonly known as the "Festival of Lanterns". Chaoshan lanterns make use of traditional arts of color tying, painting, cutting, and carving. It includes artistic features from Chaoshan opera, Chaozhou embroidery, clay sculpture, and other unique arts of Chaoshan, which are national intangible cultural heritage.
As Shantou is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, the Shantou Small Park International Lantern Fair displayed lanterns of landmark buildings from five countries where overseas Chinese from Chaoshan area mainly live. These countries include Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and the United Arab Emirates. The lanterns were displayed in five foreign style streets in the small park's historical and cultural district.
