Only citizens put up with the cost of tariff protection: Former Prime Minister of New Zealand

The 2024 Imperial Springs International Forum was held for the first time in Madrid, Spain, from December 11 to 12.

With the theme "Collective Action for Our Future," more than 40 former global dignitaries and over 20 experts from China and other countries attend the forum and discuss global hot topics, including artificial intelligence, global governance, sustainable development, and more.

As Donald Trump vows to carry out tariff protection after returning to the White House in January next year, Jenny Shipley, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, strongly urged world leaders to try to persuade the United States not to weaponize the tariff in a conversation with GDToday.

"It just puts up the cost of goods to the citizen when New Zealand used tariffs historically to protect the industries. It doesn't solve the problem," she said.
