"The Australia China trading relationship is hugely important." Bob Carr, former foreign minister of Australia, said in his speech at one of the panel discussions "Towards An Inclusive, Universally Beneficial Economic Globalization", at the 8th Understanding China Conference.
He gave a specific example of how globalization and international trade are benefiting Australia and Australian people.
He also gave another example of how protectionism can lead to distorting results, claiming that it is necessary to make the case for exports and imports, for international trade and against protectionism.
Starting from Dec 2 to 4, the 8th Understanding China Conference is being held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, themed "Carry Through the Reform to the End: Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for World Development", gathering approximately 600 attendees from all over the world, ranging from former political leaders, scholars, entrepreneurs, to delegates of international organizations, to explore China's development path and its global impact.
