Falling around August 7th each year, Beginning of Autumn, is the 13th of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms. China has a vast territory. Despite the differences between the north and south, early signs of autumn already appear in the natural world. As a soft cool breeze caresses your face, you’ll see some leaves falling from phoenix trees and grains getting plump. It means you’ve survived the scorching summer days and the fruitful season is approaching.
The host, Vivian Ma, invites Mr. Sylvain Fourriere, Consul General of France in Guangzhou to visit Kaiping Diaolou and Villages, a World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO, presenting with her handmade Elsholtzia herbal tea and Chinese style waffles. They talk about the Chinese wisdom of learning through investigation, and discuss sustainable models for the protection of world heritage.
In return, Mr. Fourriere invites Vivian to taste traditional French cuisine, which was inscribed by UNESCO on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010 and to share the stories of wandering the streets and alleys to discover something new in Guangzhou.
In the new era, China and France, two ancient countries that both emphasize “learning through investigation”, are sure to uphold “independence and mutual understanding”, achieve mutual assistance and maintain sustainable growth.
