A night visit to the firefly forest in Guangzhou

As May witnessed a peak of the firefly season in 2024, the South China National Botanical Garden extended its entry time from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm to facilitate night visits. GDToday reporters visited the botanical garden on May 11, the first day it extended its opening hours.

People showed great enthusiasm for fireflies, as in previous years. At 7 pm, when GDToday reporters arrived at the grass in front of the Cycad Garden, the most recommended site for firefly watching, a large crowd of visitors had already set up their cameras, waiting for nightfall.

Fireflies are also scattered in many other corners around the botanical garden. Visitors can discover plants and animals along the paths, while enjoying the sight of fireflies.
