A closer relationship with China boosts Angola's economic development: Angolan entrepreneur

President of Angola Joao Lourenco recently paid a state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two heads of state announced the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

"I appreciate the efforts made by both countries to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation," Raul Carvalho, administrative technician of the Caculo-Cabaca Hydropower Station project in Angola, told GDToday in a recent interview. He believes that this visit reaffirms the commitment to a long-lasting friendship.

Infrastructure projects cooperation after the state visit is of concern to Angola

Carvalho said that Angola seeks Chinese investment in critical infrastructure projects. The construction of roads, railways, ports, and energy facilities is essential to Angola's development. "The agreements related to funding and technology transfer in these areas will significantly benefit Angola," he added.

The state visit witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents on the formulation of a Belt and Road cooperation plan. China is ready to work with the Angola to implement key infrastructure projects and support competent Chinese enterprises to carry out various forms of cooperation in Angola.

Currently, the Chinese-built Caculo-Cabaca Hydropower Station has been highly appraised by Angolan President Joao Lourenco. The station is expected to bring significant benefits in terms of energy supply and improved well-being for the Angolan people.

A closer relationship with China contributes to Angola's economic diversification

"A closer relationship with China opens doors to economic synergies. Angola can take advantage of China's huge market to export products other than oil," said Carvalho. He is excited that further connection with China will bring economic diversification to Angola.

In addition to export trade, Chinese investment in critical sectors, such as infrastructure construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, will drive growth and create more jobs for locals. Carvalho pointed out that Angolan people would benefit from a more resilient and diversified economy.

Comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership benefits Angola's sustainable development

"The comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership isn't just about short-term gains. It's about shared goals for sustainable development," said Carvalho.

Documents regarding the economy and trade, agriculture, green development, and other fields were signed during the state visit. The two sides issued a joint statement on the establishment of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Angola.

"As an Angolan, I'm very interested in how Angola and China will collaborate on environmental protection, poverty alleviation, and social progress. These are the foundations of a better future," Carvalho further said.
