During the Qingming Festival, people like to go on outings, and to pay their respects to their ancestors, quietly and solemnly sweeping their tombs. While in Mexico, people honor and remember those who have passed on with a carnival on the Day of the Dead. Today, Vivian Ma is going to visit her friend Mr. Carlos Giralt, the Consul General of Mexico in Guangzhou, and present him with a traditional snack associated with the Qingming Solar Term. Then Mr. Giralt will tell Vivian more about the meaning behind the Day of the Dead, and invite her to make the Bread of the Dead, a traditional Mexican food from that holiday which resembles a skull. Both Day of the Dead and the Qingming Festival share a similar spirit and purpose, but they are observed in very different ways. Death and rebirth have a powerful connection, and it is with this topic that a cultural connection spanning ten thousand kilometers begins.
