"My Chinese name is Huang Xiaolong!"
Dr. Neil from India has been a Kung Fu movie fan since childhood, especially of Bruce Lee. Determined to chase his Kung Fu dream, he chose to live in Foshan — the "City of Kung Fu" — and even gave himself a Chinese name: Huang Xiaolong.
Today, Huang Xiaolong's dream came true when he visited the Hung Sing Martial Arts Hall in Foshan to learn Choy Li Fut — a martial art with over 170 years of history.
Unlike Wing Chun, known for its close-range combat and compact stances, Choy Li Fut features broad, flowing movements and long, grounded stances — and even turns everyday objects like abacuses, towels, and umbrellas into self-defense tools.
What surprised him even more was that Choy Li Fut had developed a unique therapeutic technique called "Kung Fu Massage" — a form of traditional Chinese massage that incorporates martial arts power mechanics. "As a doctor, I can really feel the difference — it's not just for self-defense, it's healing for both body and mind," he said.
From wielding a broadsword and practicing umbrella techniques to experiencing Kung Fu Tuina, Neil was deeply impressed by the many facets of Foshan's martial arts. "Kung Fu isn't just a sport — it's a culture, a bridge that connects people around the world," he said.
