Jiangmen and ASEAN nations celebrate deep historical ties and close connection: ASEAN consular representative

On August 9, a delegation of consular officials in Guangzhou from 8 ASEAN countries arrived in Jiangmen, along with student representatives from ASEAN countries in Guangdong, to kick off the 2024 ASEAN Cultural Day in the Capital of Overseas Chinese.

The delegation paid a visit to two local manufacturing enterprises, which are Amos Food Co., Ltd, a candy maker, and Jiangmen Bestday Electric Co., Ltd, a home appliance manufacturer, to look into their manufacturing foundation and global presence.

Mr. Iric Cruz Arribas, the Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines in Guangzhou, visited Amos Food Co., Ltd. and told GDToday that he was impressed with the achievements of Amos. "It has achieved a lot of awards and has reached out to a lot of markets, not just in China but in the US and Southeast Asia," he said. He also looked forward to more cooperation between Amos and Southeast Asian countries.

"So when I come here, very excited for me." Ms. Mom Chanthon, Consul of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Guangzhou, told GDToday at Jiangmen Bestday Electric Co., Ltd. She highly celebrated the convenience that the products could bring to house life and expected to introduce them to people in Cambodia.

In order to better understand the historical contributions to Southeast Asia and other countries around the world, the delegation had an in-depth tour of the China Qiaodu Museum of Overseas. Mrs. Vanhpheng Saisomphou, Consul General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Guangzhou, noted in an interview with GDToday that she understood the long history of Chinese immigration. "At this museum, I can see the Chinese immigration work hard and contribute to the local city."

Later on, the delegation headed for Wufeng Village for a Southeast Asian cultural experience. Ms. Panika Pittayavestsoonthon, Consul of the Royal Thai in Guangzhou, told GDToday that she thought it was a good idea to have designs from Southeast Asian countries in China. "I think it allowed more Chinese people to be interested in Southeast Asian cultures, traditions, and also people." She also recognized the contribution of Jiangmen in the close connection between Chinese people and Southeast Asian people.

The trip was hoped to empower ASEAN countries to gain a comprehensive understanding of the city's historical trajectory and its latest development and to enhance friendship and exchanges between both sides.
